Scotland Office website

The Scotland Office has finally revamped its website, complete with some rather odd pictures of Jim Murphy standing in snow, and even a rather unconvincing blog by the Scottish Secretary (civil servants at Dover House must resent the additional work…)
Lord Forsyth v Calman
June 17, 2009 by David Torrance · Leave a Comment
Interesting to see the former Conservative Scottish Secretary Lord Forsyth launch a scathing attack on the Calman Commission’s recommendations on last night’s Newsnight Scotland, even if he mixed his similies at one point by saying it amounted to “another step down the slippery slope” towards independence. Today’s Daily Telegraph is also carrying the story, although unfortunately not online.
Baroness Thatcher dinner in Glasgow

The East Renfrewshire Conservatives have put some very interesting shots of their recent dinner (held in honour of Baroness Thatcher on the 30th anniversary of her 1979 general election win) on their website, which you can see by clicking here.
Brown’s early years

A very pertinent piece by the journalist and former broadcaster Kenneth Roy in Scottish Review (“Scotland’s online current affairs magazine”) about an interview he did with Gordon Brown back in 1983. Oddly enough, Brown was then aged 32 and had just left STV; I’m nearly 31 and still work for STV, so feel an affinity with the Prime Minister…
Some nice historical parallels with Ramsay MacDonald too.
